Here are some top tips for looking cool even in the hottest weather…

Tip Number 1: Prep your skin properly.

In the lead up to your wedding day, its important to start prepping your skin with hydrating facials and drink lots of water! This really helps to prep the skin in the run up to your special day to allow a beautiful smooth application when your makeup artist applies your look in the morning. Be sure to start a skin care routine that suits your skin in the months leading up to your wedding day and stick to it as best you can!

On the morning of your wedding day, ensuring your makeup lasts all day actually starts before any makeup is applied. It’s vital to ensure that your skin is super hydrated. Once you’ve cleansed your face in the morning, apply an oil-free moisturiser/ oil controlling moisturiser as well as good, mattifying SPF. Top this with a high quality primer, such as Smashbox’s Photo Finish Oil & Shine Control Matte Primer.

Tip Number 2: Choose waterproof products for your eyes.

Not only do summer brides have to contend with happy tears, there’s also humidity and heat. That’s why it’s so important to use products on your eyes that will stand up to both. Think waterproof mascara and a gel-based or pencil liner. You’ll also need a good eye shadow primer, especially if you struggle to keep your eye makeup in place generally/ suffer from oily eyelids. My top favourite base product for the eye is MAC Cosmetics Paintpots - Layin Low & Painterly.

Tip Number 4: Finish with a good setting powder or spray.

To ensure your makeup lasts all day, set the base with a quality setting powder like Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder. You can also use a setting spray to lock everything into place. Urban Decay All Nighter and MAC Cosmetics setting spray - Matte are two of the products pros often recommend. If you are looking for a travel sized affordable setting spray for your clutch bag - NYX Proffesional Makeup Matte spray is a great alternative option in a mini size!

For you oily girls, blotting papers are a fantastic idea to store in your bridal bag to absorb any oil that might be trying to break through. Simply roll the papers on the skin and mattify the skin rather than keep piling on more makeup throughout the day. This leaves the skin looking fresh!

Tip Number 5: Prepare for the heat.

If you’re getting married outside and the temperature’s soaring, there are a few things you can do to stay cool and help preserve your makeup along the way. First, be sure to stay inside as long as possible before the ceremony. During photos, carry a handheld fan for a bit of a breeze and, of course, be sure to stay hydrated and drink lots of water. If you’re getting married somewhere where temperatures are usually higher, it’s also a good idea to avoid planning your ceremony between around 11am and 2pm. Amazon also sell some great electric fans which are able to fold and sit on the table while you are eating, giving you a steady breeze during the speeches and food!
